SAPPHIRE NOW 2010
Excerpts from Joint Keynote from Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe
May 18th 2010
The technology and mobile landscape, if anything, is dynamic. Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, co–CEOs of SAP, shared their perspectives and thoughts on the future of enterprise computing. The following are excerpts from the keynote which help highlight SAP's continued commitment to partnerships including Syclo. The first excerpt covers the SAP's Product Strategy where Syclo Mobile fits in with the "on device" portion. The second excerpt covers how strong partnerships with leaders in their part of the stack such as Syclo is strategic and helps provide customers with choices. Syclo has a mobile co–innovation partnership with SAP AG for mobile enterprise asset management and CRM field service.
SAP's Product Strategy
Jim Snabe:
"Let's look at our product strategy. In fact, it is pretty simple to explain and understand. We are committed to continue to deliver on–premise solutions for companies who fundamentally want to own their own processes, their own infrastructure, to optimize the way they run their business.
We are, as a second pillar of the strategy, committed to deliver on–demand solutions for companies who are willing to share their infrastructure with other companies, and in return, get the benefit of instant value – no install, no IT trouble.
Thirdly, we are committed to deliver applications, information, collaboration tools on–device, which means to people anytime, anywhere – unwired as well as wired. These are the three fundamental pillars in the strategy.
On top of that, we are committed to orchestrate across these three layers of software, so that data stays consistent and the process integrity is kept end–to–end – even if the process starts on the mobile device for an on–demand solution and ends with some payment in an on–premise world, where there might be a payment agent on–premise in some bank behind. End to end."
Syclo Mobile falls under "on device" in SAP's vision of the product strategy. Through co-innovation SAP intends to scale its portfolio by combining the core competencies of their partners with their strengths in industry and enterprise business processes. This multiplier effect will provide SAP's customers with the highest quality, most robust solutions. The following excerpt touches on this partnership approach.
Strong Partnerships including Syclo
Jim Snabe:
"We have strategically decided we work with partners. If you do that strategy, you must do two things very well: You must be the leading innovator in your part of that stack, and we are committed to do that. Secondly, you must form strong partnerships with other companies who are the leaders of their part of that stack. And we are very proud to have partnerships with leading companies like Intel, like Cisco, like Syclo, like RIM, like, in fact, Sybase, like VM Ware, like EMC – companies who are the best in what they do, and together, we don't just have an idea that we can integrate the stack, we actually believe that this stack will be significantly changed over the years to come."
He later said,
"And finally, we believe in choice for you our customers, we do not want to lock you into one stack, we want to form partnerships with leading companies and with that, help you have choices and move ahead from a heterogeneous or homogeneous landscape to connect your businesses and your people together."
